Amite Library Branch Ground Breaking Celebration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AMITE, LA. On Wednesday, August 17th at 10:00am, Tangipahoa Parish Library System held a ground breaking celebration for the new Amite Library Branch at 204 Northeast Central Avenue in Amite. The ground breaking is the next step in the project, which has been planned for several years. The land for the new 21,000 square foot facility was purchased in September in 2009 and after years of preparation, Tangipahoa Parish Library System is ready to begin construction.

Holly & Smith Architects Inc. will work with contractor Frank A. Anzalone General Contractors, Inc. to construct the two-story facility, which is estimated to take approximately one year. The new Amite Library Branch will also be the home to Tangipahoa Library System’s Local History and Genealogy Department, Library Administration offices, and the Technical Services Department.

“Library Boards and previous directors had been working on this library for years before I arrived in September 2008,” said Library Director Barry Bradford. “Their hard work, the support of Parish President Gordon Burgess and the Parish Council, as well as the community of Amite, is making the new library branch a reality,” says Bradford.  During the planning process, Tangipahoa Parish Government applied for and received a federal grant of $1.55 million to help pay for the new facility.
